  • This study analysed the effects of two feeding systems and the addition of condensed tannins in the concentrate in the diet of lactating ewes on growth, carcass characteristics and fat colour of their suckling lambs. Thirty-nine Churra Tensina ewe-lamb pairs were assigned to one of two feeding systems (Grazing vs. Indoors: hay-fed) and one of two concentrates, with condensed tannins (10% Quebracho with 75% condensed tannins) or without. The experimental period lasted 35 days. The addition of condensed tannins in the concentrate had no effect on the suckling lambs or the carcass characteristics. The feeding system had impact on most of the parameters studied. Grazing lambs had greater weight gains, slaughter weight and carcass weight than Indoors lambs. Moreover, subcutaneous fat from grazing lambs had greater yellowness and estimator of carotenoids than Indoors lambs.
