La razón de Estado en América

    Este artículo cuestiona la idea recurrente de que, al sustraerse histórica y geográficamente la razón de Estado del absolutismo europeo, Estados Unidos se desvinculó del potencial totalitario del Estado. Que actualmente se hable de una respuesta ante la agresión terrorista omite la presencia de éste, anterior a la Independencia, que se manifestó en la confrontación con Inglaterra, Francia y las potencias europeas. La “América” de los federalistas y los republicanos –más una prolongación imperial que una colonia en estricto sentido– sustituye la razón de Estado, ya en crisis en Europa, por la lógica de la ganancia y la expansión tanto territorial como ultramarina del interés nacional, que se transfigura en seguridad nacional cuya magnitud global desborda toda razón de Estado.

    This article questions the common idea that when the United States removed itself historically and geographically from the reason of state of European absolutism, it removed itself from the totalitarian potential of the state. The fact that today we speak of an American state response to terrorist aggression ignores the existence of a state before independence which manifested itself in the confrontation with England, France and the European powers. The "America" of the Federalists and the Republicans, more an extension of the empire than a colony in the strict sense, replaces the reason of state, already in crisis in Europe, with the profit logic and the expansion of both national and international interests, that now is transfigured into national security, whose global magnitude surpasses any previous reason of state.
