Resumen de “A disciplina de Ciências é interessante, mas não é a minha preferida”: um paradoxo entre estudantes brasileiros

  Although young Brazilians say they are interested in the Science discipline, they prefer other subjects. This study analyzed three groups of young Brazilians distributed within the preference for this discipline (Specific Priorities, Other Priorities, Poor Priority). We aimed to understand similarities and differences between these groups regarding their interests in learning topics in Science and Technology, their perceptions of science classes, and their out-of-school experiences. The data used belong to the national sample of the ROSE-Brazil questionnaire, which collects youngsters’ opinions and information on their interests and attitudes towards science and technology. This study is a baseline survey that involves a large volume of data; therefore, it used a quantitative approach through statistical analysis. The findings show that the Specific Priorities group is highly interested in learning science topics, has a positive view of their classes, and performs science-related extracurricular activities more often. The Poor Priority group has the opposite behavior to the previous group. Finally, the Other Priorities group is interested in science topics and extracurricular activities that stand out, such as the ones related to health and the use of technologies. These topics may be used to motivate these young students in their science classes.

  Os jovens brasileiros dizem-se interessados na disciplina Ciências, mas preferem outras matérias. Este artigo analisa três grupos de jovens brasileiros que se distribuem dentro da preferência pela disciplina, (Prioridades Específicas, Outras Prioridades; Baixa Prioridade). Objetivamos compreender semelhanças e diferenças entre esses grupos em relação ao interesse em aprender tópicos em Ciência e tecnologia, as suas percepções das aulas de Ciências e suas experiências extraescolares. Os dados utilizados pertencem à amostra nacional do questionário ROSE Brasil, que coleta opiniões, interesses e atitudes dos jovens frente à Ciência e à tecnologia. Essa é uma pesquisa de base e por se tratar de um grande volume de dados, utilizaremos abordagem quantitativa, por meio de análise estatística. Destacamos que o grupo Prioridades Específicas tem alto interesse em aprender tópicos de Ciências, possui visão positiva de suas aulas e realiza com mais frequência atividades extraescolares relacionadas à Ciências. O grupo Baixa Prioridade possui comportamento oposto ao do grupo anterior. Por fim, o grupo Outras Prioridades possui tópicos de interesse em Ciências e atividades extraescolares que se destacam, como o interesse por temas ligados à saúde e o uso de tecnologias, os quais podem ser utilizados como fonte para motivar esses jovens frente às suas aulas de Ciências.
