Un rasgo diferenciador de la epigrafía hispalense lo constituye, junto a la fuerte presencia de individuosrelacionados con el transporte, almacenamiento y difusión del aceite, vino, trigo y minerales de SierraMorena a través del puerto de Hispalis: scaphari, lyntrari, etc., el elevado número de procuradores y personal subalterno de la administración imperial. Su estudio, especialmente los epígrafes deIulius Possessor y Caecilius Virgilianus, nos ha permitido constatar, por una parte, que la progresiva sustitución de los publicani por funcionarios estatales se había iniciado ya en tiempos de Marco Aurelio, aunque su desarrollo cristalizará con la llegada al poder de Septimio Severo, y por otra, constatar que muy probablemente la sede de la administración procuratoria para el patrimonium principisde la provincia Bética se encontrase en Hispalis.

A differentiating feature of Seville epigraphy constitutes, together with the strong presence of individuals related to the transport, storage and distribution of oil, wine, wheat and minerals of the Sierra Morena through the port of Hispalis: scaphari, lyntrari, etc., the number of magistrates and of the ImperialAdministration. Their study, especially the inscriptions of Iulius Possessor and Caecilius Virgilianus, has allowed us to see, on the one hand, that the progressive replacement of the publicani by imperial procuratoreshad begun already in times of Marcus Aurelius, although its development crystallize withthe advent to power of Septimius Severus, and on the other hand, note that very probably the headquar-ters of the Administration Procuratoria for patrimonium principis of the Betica province is located in Hispalis in Severe time.
