El exterminio sistemático con la intención de destruir los tutsis ruandeses, sucedido en 1994, sitúa a Ruanda entre los genocidios del siglo XX junto al Holocausto de los judíos, el genocidio armenio, el genocidio camboyano y el genocidio en Bosnia. Entre el 7 de abril y julio de 1994, en sólo doce semanas, alrededor de un millón de personas, casi todas tutsis, fueron sistemáticamente asesinadas. También sucedió el asesinato de hutus moderados, familiares y amigos de tutsis. Todo esto causó la ruptura de la sociedad ruandesa, la desconfianza entre la gente y la destrucción del país a todos los niveles. Es interesante analizar hacia dónde camina el país después de 25 años del genocidio.

The systematic extermination that took place in 1994 with the aim to destroy Rwandan Tutsis positions Rwanda amongst the genocides of the 20th century next to the Holocaust of the Jews, the Armenian genocide, the Cambodian genocide and the genocide in Bosnia. Between April 7 and July 1994, in just twelve weeks, around one million people, mainly Tutsis, were systematically murdered. Moderate Hutus, as well as relatives and friends of Tutsis, were also murdered, which led to the fracture of the Rwandan society. Distrust was generated among people and the country was destructed at all levels. It is therefore interesting to analyze where the country is heading to 25 years later.
