    Entendemos por «estructura» el modo de estar organizadas las partes de un todo en un tiempo más o menos largo. Estas suelen ser relativamente estables e implican per- manencia y regularidad o, en todo caso, alteraciones lentas, frente a la «coyuntura» de los acontecimientos políticos que producen cambios rápidos de personas y situaciones en un tiempo histórico más o menos breve. El reinado de Isabel II (1833-1868) se hace difícil de entender coyunturalmente, por la rápida y constante sucesión de acontecimientos políticos y sociales, pero es más sencillo de comprender si procuramos extraer la estructura, las cons- tantes políticas en más de tres décadas que son distintas del periodo anterior; es decir, el reinado de Fernando VII (1813-1833) y del siguiente, el Sexenio (1868-1874) a que da lugar la revolución del 68

    By “structure”, we understand how the parts of a whole are organized in a relatively long time. These tend to be stable and imply permanence and regularity or, at most, slow changes. On the other hand, the term “conjuncture” describes political events that produce rapid changes in people and situations in a relatively short historical timeframe. The reign of Isabella II (1833-1868) is difficult to understand conjuncturally, due to the rapid and con- stant succession of political and social events. However, it is easier to understand if we try to examine the structure and political constants of over three decades which are different from the previous period; that is to say, the reign of Fernando VII (1813-1833) and the following one, the Sexenio (1868-1874), to which the revolution of ‘68 gave rise
