  Los fundamentos teóricos de esta investigación están en la teoría del crecimiento endógeno, que, en esencia, sostiene que el crecimiento de un territorio debe basarse en recursos y factores locales. En este sentido, la creación y puesta en marcha de rutas interpretativas turísticas en las ciudades se plantea con la intención de poneren valor sus recursos locales. La interpretación es un instrumento que sirve para que las personas conozcan, comprendan y valoren los recursos visitados a través de un acercamiento respetuoso, a la vez que es un instrumento de gestión que contribuye al desarrollo sostenible de los territorios. Una manera simple de conocer el potencial interpretativo de los recursos locales es utilizar la Matriz del potencial interpretativo. En esta investigación, esta herramienta se aplica a cinco rutas interpretativas en la ciudad de Santa Cruz de Tenerife y es completada por investigadores y por los actores sociales del territorio. El objetivo de este trabajo es tener una primera aproximación, de carácter cuantitativa, sobre qué ruta turística, de las propuestas, tiene mayor potencial interpretativo y desde este punto de vista, mayor posibilidad de implementación.

  The theoretical foundations of this research can be found in the endogenous growth theory, which basically argues that the growth of a territory must be based on local resources and factors. In this sense, the creation and implementation of interpretative tourist routes in cities is proposed so as to enhance the value of local resources. Interpretation is a tool for people to know, understand and appreciate the resources visited through a respectful approach and it is also a management tool that can contribute to the sustainable development of territories. A simple way to know the interpretative potential of local resources is to use the Matrix of interpretative potential. In this research, this tool is applied to five interpretative routes in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and is completed by researchers and social actors of the territory. The aim of this work is to have a first (quantitative)approach so as to clarify which of the tourist routes is the best in terms of interpretative potential and, from such standpoint, the best for its implementation.
