St Stephen’s church in Luesia (Zaragoza) conserves a late 15th century retable dedica-ted to St Fabian and St Sebastian, classified by specialists as belonging to the school of the master painter Bartolomé Bermejo. On the central panel of the predella, the artist painted an image of Christ, the Eucaristic Man of Sorrows, which closely follows known works by Bartolomé Bermejo. Christ’s expression and the composition itself show the connection of this work with a spiritual cu-rrent known as devotio moderna, which originated in the Netherlands at the end of the 14th century and spread throughout Christian countries, reaching Spain in the following century.
