Resumen de Estudio de la relación entre el rendimiento académico en primaria y el origen, la clase social y el clima educativo familiar del alumno

Loreto Laín-Pérez, David Sanz-Bas

  • There are many different variables that influence students and their learning environment, and the study of the degree of influence of these variables, both on their development and on their academic results, has been and continues to be the object of study by educational researchers. With this study, we aim to contribute to this field of research and to understand the relationship that certain contextual variables of the student, such as their origin and social class, as well as their educational and family climate, may have on the students' results. We have worked on school performance for primary school students in the subjects of mathematics and science, based on the TIMSS 2019. An ANOVA analysis was carried out to determine whether these academic results in these subjects depended on the contextual variables studied. The results of the analysis show us dependence of the academic outcome on the student's and parents' background, on the language spoken and on the parents' type of work, also for the parents' level of education, parents' highest level of education and parents' perception of their children's school. Based on these results, it will be possible to analyse in a subsequent study the causes that may give rise to this dependence or independence of the variables and academic performance.
