Resumen de La democracia y la cuestión del pueblo

En el presente art ́ıculo, exploramos el problema del pueblo, como sujeto o agente que presuntamente ejerce elpoder o gobierna en un r ́egimen democr ́atico. Abordando dos teor ́ıas o aproximaciones distintas al problemademocr ́atico –el elitismo democr ́atico y la democracia como evento–, nos preguntamos por el modo comoellas representan al pueblo; puntualmente, si lo conciben como un sujeto pol ́ıtico en sentido fuerte, comouna entidad dotada de agencia pol ́ıtica. A partir del an ́alisis emprendido, concluimos que no obstante lasimportantes diferencias entre los enfoques estudiados, en ambos encontramos un tratamiento defectuoso delproblema del pueblo como sujeto pol ́ıtico, motivo por el cual consideramos necesario continuar indagandomodos en que se afirme adecuadamente la agencia pol ́ıtica del pueblo.

In this article, we explore the people’s problem, understood as subject or agent who must wield power orgovern in a democratic regime. We address two different theories or approaches to the democratic problem–democratic elitism and democracy as event–, and we ask how they represent the people; specifically, if theyconceive it as a political subject in strong sense, as an entity endowed with political agency. We concludethat despite the important differences between the approaches studied, in both we can find a defectivetreatment of the problem of the people as a political subject. For this reason, we consider necessary tocontinue investigating representations that adequately affirm the people’s political agency.
