  En la actualidad las repercusiones del nivel socioeconómico en el Ecuador se abordan desde diferentes contextos, un factor preponderante es el efecto de la economía familiar en el desempeño académico de jóvenes estudiantes que cursan la instrucción primaria, secundaria e incluso superior. El presente estudio tiene como finalidad identificar el nivel socioeconómico y su incidencia en el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes del tercer semestre de la carrera de LAD (Tecnología Superior en Logística en Almacenamiento y Distribución) del Instituto Superior Tecnológico Tsáchila, la investigación se realizó con base a un enfoque cuantitativo de tipo descriptivo, para la recopilación de información se aplicó como instrumento la encuesta de estratificación de nivel socioeconómico validada por el INEC, además se recabaron los resultados promédiales de rendimiento académico. Con la identificación, ponderación y concreción de dichas variables se procedió a establecer la correlación matemática de Pearson (Nivel Socioeconómico – Rendimiento Académico). Entre los resultados de mayor relevancia se establece que los estudiantes del Tercer nivel de la carrera de LAD se encuentran entre los umbrales socioeconómicos medio típico y medio bajo, no obstante la media aritmética global es de 591,55/1000 – Medio Típico (C+). El promedio de rendimiento académico general es de 7, 98/10. El estudio de correlación muestra una débil relación directa entre las variables nivel socioeconómico y rendimiento académico (0,242).PALABRAS CLAVE: nivel socioeconómico; rendimiento académico; estratificación; correlación.

  SOCIOECONOMIC LEVEL AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS. With the identification, weighting and concretion of the above mentioned variables one proceeded to establish Pearson's mathematical correlation (Socioeconomic Level - Academic Performance). Between the results of major relevancy it is found that the students of the Third level of LAD career are between the socioeconomic thresholds average typically and average low, nevertheless the global arithmetic mean is of 591,55/1000 - Typical Way (C +). The average of academic general performance is of 7, 98/10.
