La traducción de un álbum-ilustrado postmoderno: el peso de la imagen en la dinámica multimodal

    Este estudio investiga qué efectos tiene la interacción entre el modo textual y el modo visual en la traducción al castellano del álbum-ilustrado postmoderno El Apestoso Hombre Queso y otros Cuentos Maravillosamente Estúpidos, escrito en inglés por Jon Scieszka e ilustrado por Lane Smith. La naturaleza multimodal de los álbumes ilustrados para niños requiere de un análisis contrastivo que explore ambos modos para poder así esclarecer el peso relativo que cada uno de ellos ejerce sobre el producto final, es decir, el texto traducido. Tras examinar comparativamente la versión original y su traducción, se han identificado las transformaciones intralingüísticas así como las transducciones intersemióticas llevadas a cabo por el traductor en su trasvase de la obra del inglés al castellano. Las estrategias y las elecciones de la traducción han posibilitado determinar la influencia que el modo visual ha ejercido en la versión española de este álbum-ilustrado.

    This study investigates the effect of the interplay of the visual and the textual modes on The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tale, a postmodern picture book written in English by Jon Scieszka and illustrated by Lane Smith, and which has been translated into Spanish. The multimodal nature of illustrated books for children requires a multimodal comparative analysis in order to untangle the relative part played by each of these modes in the final product, the translated text. As a result of this contrastive examination, it has been possible to identify the intralingual transformations and intersemiotic transductions carried out by the translator in order to convey the original text into Spanish. The translation strategies and the particular verbal choices made by the translator have made it possible to determine the impact of the visual mode in the Spanish version of this picturebook.
