    En estos tiempos convulsos, inmersos, estamos, europeos en la guerra de Rusia contra Ucrania nos surge de pronto la necesidad de acudir a la justicia internacional para tratar de dar una solución civilizada a las masivas violaciones de derechos humanos de ciudadanos ucranianos. Aparece el debate sobre cuá1 es la mejor solución. Lecciones aprendidas nos muestran la imposibilidad de que lo haga la justicia local. La ICC se encuentra con la dificultad de su no aceptación por parte de EEUU, coma tampoco la de Rusia ni de China. La opción propuesta de un tribunal ad hoc aparece coma factible. En este articulo se relata de forma no académica el surgimiento y desarrollo en el tiempo del Tribunal Penal para la antigua Yugoslavia . Pretende mostrar que no fue una experiencia fácil y que no estuvo exenta de riesgos. Se analizan algunos de ellos, lo que nos puede dar pistas y dejar lecciones aprendidas sobre lo que significa emprender una aventura moral y jurídica de estas características. Con la esperanza de superar el modelo, saber apuntar desde el principio a las metas donde se quiere llegar y, sobre todo, no cometer errores evitables que dificulten innecesariamente alcanzarlas.

    In these turbulent times, immersed as Europeans in Russia's war against Ukraine, the need suddenly arises to turn to international justice in pursuit of a civilized solution to the massive human rights violations of Ukrainian citizens. The debate arises about what is the best solution. Lessons learned show us the impossibility of local justice in such a scenario. On the other hand, the ICC faces the difficulty of not being accepted by key international players as the US, Russia, or China . A third option appears as a possible solution: the creation of an Ad Hoc Tribunal. This article reports in a non-academic fashion the emergence and development over time of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. It aims to show that it was not an easy experience and that it was not without risks. Some of these challenges are analysed in the next pages, as they give us clues and lessons learned about what it means to undertake a moral and legal enterprise of these characteristics. The article envisages to overcome the current ad hoc model, by having clearer objectives in mind that in the past and, above all, not falling into avoidable mistakes.
