    Los movimientos migratorios y la globalización son el resultado del constante cambio quevive el ser humano y de la necesidad de compartir y explorar. La diversidad cultural actuales el resultado de estos cambios y es imprescindible que sea recibida con tolerancia, sinimponer límites ni fronteras. Para esto, la tesis doctoral presenta una revisión teórica de lostérminos de identidad, cultura y diversidad cultural con el objetivo de ver cómo se ha idogestionado esta última en los siglos XX y XXI. Tras este análisis, la investigación concluyeque la Educación Intercultural es, actualmente, el mejor enfoque para fomentar relacionesbasadas en el respeto y la comprensión mutua. En base a esta pedagogía se revisa laLOMCE, así como la relevancia de la competencia intercultural en el aula de lenguaextranjera inglés. A raíz de los resultados extraídos de este análisis, se presentanmetodologías y propuestas prácticas que fomentan la adquisición de la competencia y lasrelaciones interculturales. La tesis concluye que dicha competencia es fundamental para eldesarrollo personal de los futuros ciudadanos, así como para adquirir una visión global ytolerante de la heterogeneidad presente en las sociedades actuales.

    The migratory movements and the globalization are the result of the constant change thatlives the human being and the need to share and explore. The current cultural diversity isthe result of all these changes and it is essential to manage it with tolerance, without limitsor borders. For this, the doctoral thesis presents a theoretical review of the terms of identity,culture and cultural diversity with the objective of knowing how it has been managed in the20th and 21st centuries. After this analysis, the study concludes that Intercultural Educationis currently the best approach to foster relationships based on respect and mutualunderstanding. Based on this pedagogy, the LOMCE is revised, as well as the implicationsof the intercultural competence in English as a second language. Based on the results of thisanalysis, methodologies and activities that promote the acquisition of this competence andencourage intercultural relations are presented. The thesis concludes that the interculturalcompetence is fundamental for the personal development of future citizens, as well as foracquiring a global and tolerant vision of the heterogeneity of today’s societies.
