Mujer de 26 años que llega a urgencias con dolor en el flanco derecho. Se le realizan una serie de pruebas para llegar a su diagnóstico (de ahí la importancia de éstas para realizar unos cuidados de alta calidad y un tratamiento adecuado). Repasamos brevemente la anatomía renal, las funciones del aparato urinario y conceptos como ectasia ureteral y litiasis uretral para entender la patología de la paciente cuyo diagnóstico es cólico renal complicado.

A 26-year-old woman who arrives at the emergency room with pain in the right flank. She undergoes a series of tests to arrive at her diagnosis (hence the importance of these to perform high-quality care and adequate treatment). We will briefly review the renal anatomy, the functions of the urinary system and concepts such as urethral ectasia and urethral lithiasis to understand the pathology of the patient whose diagnosis is complicated renal colic.
