    Las úlceras por presión (UPP) son áreas de piel lesionada consecuencia de la necrosis isquémica a nivel de la piel y los tejidos subcutáneos. Generalmente se ocasionan por presión prolongada sobre una prominencia ósea (tobillos, talones, caderas).

    Las úlceras por presión son un importante problema de salud con graves consecuencias que afectan tanto a los pacientes y sus entornos familiares (elevan la mortalidad y morbilidad), como al sistema de salud (aumenta los costes sanitarios).

    Todos los pacientes ingresados tienen, en alguna medida, riesgo de aparición de úlceras por presión durante su estancia. Se estima que un 51,6% se producen en el hospital y que un 95% son evitables.

    Pressure ulcers (PU) are areas of injured skin resulting from ischemic necrosis at the level of the skin and subcutaneous tissues. They are usually caused by prolonged pressure on a bony prominence (ankles, heels, hips).

    Pressure ulcers are a major health problem with serious consequences that affect both patients and their families (they increase mortality and morbidity), as well as the health system (increases health costs).

    All hospitalized patients have, to some extent, a risk of the appearance of pressure ulcers during their stay. It is estimated that 51.6% occur in the hospital and that 95% are avoidable.
