Alcalá de Henares, cuna de Cervantes “el soldado viejo y estropeado” más ilustre y preclaro del Ejército y la Marina de España, ha estado gracias a este feliz natalicio íntimamente unida a los Cuerpos de Inválidos Militares y de Mutilados de Guerra por la Patria.
En el 1905, se solicitó al Rey que Miguel de Cervantes fuese nombrado Coronel honorario y que ocupara un lugar preminente en la lista de revista mensual del Cuerpo de Inválidos.
Hacemos un sucinto repaso de la legislación relativa a los Cuerpos de Inválidos y Mutilados de Guerra, hasta la nefasta ley 17/89 por la cual desapareció el Cuerpo y sus componentes pasaron a retirados.
Durante la guerra civil ambos bandos fundaron sus respetivos cuerpos para acoger a los mutilados e inutilizados en campaña, el bando republicano la Liga de Mutilados de Guerra y el bando nacionalista el Cuerpo de Mutilados de Guerra por la Patria siendo el primer director y fundador del mismo el legendario y laureado general Millán Astray.

Alcalá de Henares –birthplace of Cervantes, the most illustrious “old and damaged soldier” in the Army and Navy of Spain– has been, thanks to this happy birth, intimately united to the Corps of Military Invalids and War Mutilated for the Homeland.
In 1905, the King was requested that Miguel de Cervantes be named honorary Colonel and that he occupied a prominent place in the monthly magazine list of the Invalids Corps.
We make a brief review of the legislation regarding the Corps of Invalids and Mutilated of War, until the ominous law 17/89 by which the Corps disappeared and its components passed retired.
During the civil war both sides founded their respective corps to receive the mutilated and wounded in war action; in the republican side the War Mutilated League and in the nationalist side the Corps of War Mutilated for the Homeland, which founder and first director was the legendary and laureate General Millán Astray.
