    Elizabeth II is the most famous woman in the world. Having become queen by accident in 1952, after the premature death of her father, she managed to overcome all the political, diplomatic and family crises, and to consolidate one of the most anachronistic institutions in the world : the British monarchy. At first, though, nothing predestined this shy royal princess, with a modest bearing and a basic education, who accessed the throne without any preparation, to reach such a standing.

    Élisabeth II est la femme la plus célèbre du monde. Devenue reine par accident en 1952, après la disparition prématurée de son père, elle a réussi à surmonter toutes les crises, politiques, diplomatiques et familiales, pour asseoir l’une des institutions les plus anachroniques au monde : la monarchie britannique. Au départ pourtant, rien ne prédestinait cette princesse royale, timide, au maintien modeste et à l’éducation sommaire, montée sur le trône sans aucune préparation, à atteindre un tel prestige.
