    La conquista de Orán en 1732 es uno de los grandes momentos de un reinado controvertido como el de Felipe V y como episodio militar ha recibido tradicionalmente la atención de la historiografía. Aunque han aparecido interesantes estudios sobre la sociedad oranesa de la Edad Moderna en las últimas décadas, existen sin embargo pocas investigaciones recientes sobre la defensa de Orán posterior a 1732. Este artículo busca arrojar luz sobre este contexto, haciendo hincapié en otro aspecto poco conocido: las relaciones con la población local de dentro y fuera de la plaza. Para ello se han consultado los testimonios de testigos de primera mano como el gobernador José Vallejo o los ingenieros militares que sirvieron en Orán durante ese período.

    The conquest of Oran in 1732 is one of the great moments of a controversial reign like that of Philip V of Spain and as a military affair, it has traditionally received the attention of historians. Although interesting studies on Early Modern Oran’s society have appeared recently, there is however little recent research on the defence of Oran after 1732. This paper aims to shed light on this context, emphasizing another little-known aspect: the relationship with the local population inside and outside the Spanish stronghold. For this purpose, the testimonies of first-hand witnesses such as Governor José Vallejo or the military engineers who served in Oran during this period have been consulted.
