  Joaquín Rieta Síster (Valencia, 1897-1982) es uno de los principales exponentes de la arquitectura valenciana de las décadas centrales del siglo XX. Su reconocimiento se circunscribe principalmente a las obras racionalistas de la década de 1930. Menos conocida es, sin embargo, su “otra” arquitectura, la construida después de la Guerra Civil, ignorada con frecuencia desde la óptica de una historiografía excluyente que ha puesto el valor en la modernidad. Dentro de este contexto podemos situar el teatro de la Banda Primitiva de Llíria (1950-1951).

  El presente estudio comienza encuadrando la figura del arquitecto y académico, seguida de una breve recensión de la sociedad comitente, la prestigiosa banda bicentenaria valenciana. A continuación, el discurso se centra en el análisis arquitectónico de los dos proyectos del teatro, y de su habilidosa reconducción de la mano de Rieta, para finalmente poner en valor su realidad física como bien patrimonial plenamente activo. Al interés arquitectónico y social se suma el hecho de ser el único de los teatros construidos por Rieta que se conserva en buen estado y con escasas alteraciones.

  Joaquín Rieta Síster (Valencia, 1897-1982) is one of the leading exponents of Valencian architecture in the middle decades of the 20th century. His recognition is mainly confined to the rationalist works of the 1930s. Less well known, however, is his “other” architecture, that built after the Spanish Civil War and often ignored from the point of view of an exclusionary historiography that has placed the emphasis on modernity. It is within this context that we can place the theatre of the Banda Primitiva de Llíria (1950-1951).

  This study begins by featuring the figure of the architect and academician, followed by a brief review of the commissioning company, the prestigious Valencian bicentenary civic band. Next, the discourse focuses on the architectural analysis of the two projects of the theatre, and its skillful straightening by the direction of Rieta, to finally highlight its physical reality as a fully active heritage asset. To the architectural and social interest is added the fact of being the only theatre of those built by Rieta that is preserved in good condition and with just few alterations
