Resumen de Don Juan, Don Quijote, San Mauricio y el Arquero, figuras del heroísmo moral en Ortega y Gasset. Por una moral humanista

En este artículo presentamos cuatro figuras simbólicas del pensamiento de José Ortega y Gasset: Don Juan, Don Quijote, San Mauricio y el Arquero, que representan, a su vez, cuatro modelos de sujeto moral, de heroísmo y de ser humano. En contraste con ellas, Ortega expone un antihéroe, el ser humano característico de la rebelión de las masas, el ser humano de la adaptación. El estudio de esas cuatro figuras implica el estudio de la ética orteguiana, que es una verdadera moral del héroe. Don Juan representa el nihilismo ético sin finalidad, sin meta, y Don Quijote es el héroe melancólico cuyo objeto es una alucinación, un ideal imposible. San Mauricio es para Ortega ejemplo del sujeto moral que da su vida por un fin, pero su meta es de naturaleza trascendente, religiosa. Y el Arquero representa el verdadero modelo de héroe humanista orteguiano, el auténtico sujeto moral y ejemplo de ser humano cuya meta es llegar a ser él mismo.

En aquest article presentem quatre figures simbòliques del pensament de José Ortega y Gasset: Don Juan, Don Quixot, Sant Maurici i l’Arquer, que representen, també, quatre models de subjecte moral, d’heroisme i d’ésser humà. En contrast amb elles, Ortega exposa un antiheroi, l’ésser humà característic de la rebel·lió de les masses, l’ésser humà de l’adaptació. L’estudi d’aquestes quatre figures implica l’estudi de l’ètica orteguiana, que és una veritable moral de l’heroi. Don Juan representa el nihilisme ètic sense finalitat, sense meta, i Don Quixot és l’heroi melancòlic l’objecte del qual és una al·lucinació, un ideal impossible. Sant Maurici és per a Ortega un exemple del subjecte moral que dona la seva vida per a una finalitat, però la seva meta és de naturalesa transcendent, religiosa. I l’Arquer representa el vertader model d’heroi humanista orteguià, l’autèntic subjecte moral i exemple d’ésser humà la meta del qual és arribar a ser ell mateix.

In this paper we present four symbolic figures of Ortega y Gasset’s thought: Don Juan, Don Quixote, Saint Maurice, and the Archer, which represent, in turn, four models of moral subject, heroism, and human being. In contrast to them, Ortega exhibits an antihero, the human being characteristic of the rebellion of the masses, the man of adaptation. The study of these four figures implies the study of the Orteguian ethic, which is a true morality of the hero. Don Juan represents ethical nihilism without purpose, without aim, and Don Quixote is the melancholic hero whose object is a hallucination, an impossible ideal. For Ortega, Saint Maurice is already an example of the moral subject who gives his life for an objective, but his goal is of a transcendent, religious nature. The Archer represents the true model of the Orteguian humanist hero, the authentic moral subject and example of a human being whose goal is to become himself.
