El Fantasma de la Ópera, a pesar de tener un origen literario, es una historia donde la música juega un papel muy importante. Sin embargo, de todas las adaptaciones cinematográficas que se han hecho, la única que ha dado un verdadero valor a la banda sonora ha sido la versión musical de 2004.
En la novela, al personaje del Fantasma se le confiere una Voz, que sólo se verá reflejada en la adaptación de Andrew Lloyd Webber. Precisamente el hecho de dar una “voz” musical al Fantasma cambia sustancialmente la predisposición del espectador hacia el personaje. El objetivo de este trabajo es precisamente el encontrar esta “voz” y descubrir cómo afecta al discurso fílmico.
Se trata de rastrear cuáles son las creaciones musicales del Fantasma, con qué canción se presenta a sí mismo, cómo es la música que compone y qué impresión recibe el receptor al escucharla (tanto el/los personaje/s de la ficción como el espectador). Todo ello con el propósito de averiguar cómo estos elementos pueden llegar a jugar un papel decisivo en la percepción e identificación del espectador cinematográfico con un personaje notablemente ambiguo.

Despite having a literary origin The Phantom of the Opera is a story where music plays an important role. From all film adaptations made, the one that has given real value to the soundtrack is the musical version of 2004.
In the novel, the character of the Phantom has a "voice", only reflected in Andrew Lloyd Webber's adaptation. The fact of giving a musical "voice" to the Phantom changes substantially the vision of the spectator towards the character. The aim of this article is to find this "voice" and discover how it affects the filmic discourse. The purpose is learning which the Phantom’s musical creations are, which song represents him, how the music is and what the impression of the spectator (both in fiction and in reality) is. The intention is to show that these elements play a key role in the perception and identification of film audience with this remarkably ambiguous character.
