Although for some years the work of the Jakob Meyerbeer (1791-1864) has undergone a revaluation, there are still many who, influenced by the interested comments of some composers, believe that Meyerbeer was an author who sacrificed his talent for the benefit of success . This article defends the opposite, that is, the validity of the work of the Berlin composer. Exceptionally influential were the views on Meyerbeer's work espoused by Richard Wagner in his Oper und Drama. A text that in this article is considered more an exercise in self-justification than a work of reflection on the aspects that make up the Meyerberian contribution.
