    El presente trabajo tiene como finalidad principal demostrar que la carta de Unamuno tremendamente crítica con los políticos de la República, enviada a Francisco Cerdeira con fecha 10 de septiembre de 1931, era realmente suya. Tal epístola pudo acabar con la vida política y el prestigio del remitente. Para que esto nosucediera, aseguró que él no la había escrito. En esta misma línea, sus principales biógrafos y estudiosos la han olvidado, soslayado o desfigurado, hasta ahora. El objetivo pretendía borrar o difuminar un significativo desdoro en la vida y personalidad del intelectual bilbaíno. Las fuentes principales para la elaboración de las páginas que siguen, respetando un orden cronológico de los hechos, han sido la prensa, en primer lugar, y las más recientes biografías de Miguel de Unamuno.

    The main purpose of this article is to show that Unamuno’s letter, extremely critical towards the politicians of the Republic, sent to Francisco Cerdeira on 10 September 1931, was really written by him. This letter could have put an end to the political life and the prestige of the sender. To prevent this, he claimed he had not written it. In the same vein, his main biographers and scholars have forgotten, glossed over or disfigured it until now. The aim was to erase or blur a significant discredit in the life and personality of the intellectual of Bilbao. The main sources for the production of the following pages, respecting a chronological order of events, have been the press, in the first place, and the most recent biographies of Miguel de Unamuno.
