    Descubrimos la figura del erudito calagurritano Pedro Gutiérrez Achútegui y su papel en los inicios de la arqueología de Calahorra, faceta a menudo desconocida por muchos. Persona de formación humanística e interesado por la historia y el conocimiento de la Antigüedad, su labor en el terreno arqueológico no se limitó a realizar prospecciones de campo, sino que recopiló toda una serie de hallazgos de piezas aparecidas de forma casual durante las remociones de tierras, demoliciones de viejos edificios y obras que se llevaban a cabo en el subsuelo de la ciudad, tomando los datos de su procedencia y elaborando el plano ideal de Calagurris en época romana, con sus edificios públicos principales. Su interés por los yacimientos y enclaves del término municipal abarca además algunas obras de ingeniería hidráulica romana y de infraestructura. Al mismo tiempo, llegó a formar una colección arqueológica de gran interés.

    We discover the figure of the Calagurritan scholar Pedro Gutiérrez Achutegui and his role in the early archeology of Calahorra, a facet often unknown by many people. A person of humanistic training and interested in the history and knowledge of Antiquity, his work in the archaeological field was not limited to carrying out field surveys, but also collected a series of finds of pieces that appeared casually during the removal of land, demolitions of old buildings and works that they were carried out in the subsoil of the city, taking the data of its origin, elaborating the ideal plan of Calagurris in Roman times, with its main public buildings. His interest in the deposits and enclaves of the municipal term, also includes some works of Roman hydraulic engineering and infrastructure. At the same time it came to form an archaeological collection of great interest.
