The present investigation reveals the wealth of sources of Techne Rhetorikes (1681)and their handling by Frangiskos Skoufos. The work is based on Aristotle’s prescription for rhetors’ knowledge, thus it is full of details on ecclesiastical history and life of saints, philosophical, mythological and folklore elements. The thematic of exempla is drawn mainly upon epigrams, whichSk oufos composed in order to be written below paintings, and Dorotheos’ Chronographer . Thesource books vary a lot and are used to draw relevant and non-relevant material. The style of TechneRhetorikes lies mainly on Verani’s Pantheon argutae elocutionis (1670) and its suggested emblematicstandardization of speech. The detection of intermediate sources and the consequent refractedreading, which is usual in Techne and its epoch, may be also attributed to the material that Skoufosrecalls from his student notes while attending the Greek College of Rome.
