    The city of Sinope, located in the middle of the southern shore of the Black Sea, has, due to its seaboard location, marine and maritime divinities in its pantheon. Two important maritime divinities, namely Poseidon Helikonios and Apollo Delphinios, were imported from the metropolis, Miletos, while secondary divinities linked to the marine environment can also be found in Sinope, as a testimony of the Sinopean identity: the hero Autolycos, companion of Jaso and/or Heracles, who had an oracular sanctuary in Sinope until the catch of the city by the Roman general Lucullus in 70 BC; and the nymph or amazon Sinope, that can be found on the civic coinage of Sinope during the Hellenistic period

    La cité de Sinope, située au milieu de la côte méridionale de la mer Noire, possède, du fait de sa position littorale, des divinités marines et maritimes dans son panthéon. Deux divinités maritimes importantes, à savoir Poséidon Hélikonios et Apollon Delphinios, ont été importées de sa métropole, Milet, tandis qu’on trouve aussi à Sinope des divinités secondaires liées à l’environnement marin, qui sont un témoignage de l’identité sinopéenne : le héros Autolycos, compagnon de Jason et/ou d’Héraclès, qui avait un sanctuaire oraculaire à Sinope jusqu’à sa prise par le général romain Lucullus en 70 avant J.-C. ; et la nymphe ou l’Amazone Sinope, qui apparaît sur les monnaies civiques de Sinope à l’époque hellénistique
