    Hemos recogido hasta aquí algunas de las notas características de la naturaleza humana: su inteligencia, su dimensión social, histórica, biográfica y cultural. Se podrían señalar otros rasgos comunes a todo ser humano como la libertad, la dignidad, la finitud y la vulnerabilidad. No teníamos la pretensión de ser exhaustivos sino de apuntar una tercera vía en la compresión de la naturaleza humana (entre el biologicismo y el socioculturalismo). Es posible una tercera vía, que recoge algunos elementos desde el pensamiento clásico a nuestros días, pasando por autores contemporáneos como Zubiri, personalistas y demás, y hacer una propuesta de naturaleza humana como aquello que hace al humano ser quien es y no otro animal cualquiera. La especificidad de lo humano es innegable, y su irreductibilidad a materia queda en el horizonte como un punto de fuga, donde quizá haya que invocar la dimensión del enigma o el misterio, con palabras del Profesor Miguel García-Baró, y recuperar la verticalidad del ser humano, el horizonte último de compresión acerca de quién es, de su sentido y significado. «La ciencia es cumulativa, la sabiduría no», afirmó Jérôme Lejeune. La ciencia progresa exponencialmente, a una velocidad acelerada, el transhumanismo es prueba de ello; por contrario, la sabiduría no. El desarrollo de la razón técnico-instrumental está siendo muy rápido y acelerado; la razón sapiencial, en cambio, procede lentamente, sin capacidad de analizar con calma y detalle todo lo que implican estos cambios. Se nos exige una mayor reflexión acerca de quiénes somos y hacia dónde vamos como especie. El transhumanismo y el posthumanismo se plantean la cuestión de la utilidad, pero no aquellas del significado y el sentido último, o primero, de la existencia humana.

    So far we have collected some of the characteristic notes of human nature: its intelligence, its social, historical, biographical and cultural dimension. Other traits common to all human beings could be pointed out, such as freedom, dignity, finitude and vulnerability. We did not pretend to be exhaustive but to point out a third way in the understanding of human nature (between biologicism and socioculturalism). A third way is possible, which collects some elements from classical thought to our days, passing through contemporary authors such as Zubiri, personalists and others, and making a proposal of human nature as that which makes the human being who he is and not just any other animal. The specificity of the human is undeniable, and its irreducibility to matter remains on the horizon as a vanishing point, where perhaps it is necessary to invoke the dimension of the enigma or the mystery, in the words of Professor Miguel García-Baró, and recover the verticality of the being human, the ultimate horizon of understanding about who he is, his meaning and significance. «Science is cumulative, wisdom is not», said Jérôme Lejeune. Science progresses exponentially, at an accelerated speed, transhumanism is proof of this; on the contrary, wisdom does not. The development of the technical-instrumental reason is being very fast and accelerated; Wisdom reason, on the other hand, proceeds slowly, without the ability to analyze in calm and detail all that these changes imply. Greater reflection is required of us about who we are and where we are going as a species. Transhumanism and posthumanism raise the question of utility, but not those of meaning and the ultimate, or first, meaning of human existence.
