“O sofrimento vai ter fim?”: o mal-estar da cultura em Nietzsche e Freud

    This article aims to discuss the role played by suffering in Nietzsche’sand Freud's reflections about culture. To this end, 1) I will indicate the philosophical context in which the theme gains notoriety, in the thought of Arthur Schopenhauer; 2) I will investigate, especially from selected passages from Beyond Good and Eviland Genealogy of Morals, how the origin of culture is linked by Nietzsche to the dangers of human desire to make someone suffer; 3) I will examine, mainlyfrom Civilization and Its Discontents, the Freudian conception that the “discontent”(Unbehagen)in culture is the result of the pulsional resignation, which is characteristic of the individual's psychic formation and development; and, finally, 4) I will comparatively analyze the thoughts of bothauthors, seeking to emphasize above all to what extent the suffering constitutes, from a theoretical point of view, one of the main concepts of their reflections on the origin of culture.

    O presente artigo visa discutir o papel desempenhado pelo sofrimento nas reflexões culturais de Nietzsche e Freud. Para tanto,1) indicareio contexto filosófico em que o tema ganha notoriedade, no pensamento de Arthur Schopenhauer; 2) investigarei,especialmente a partir de passagens selecionadas dePara além de bem e mal e Genealogia da moral,como a origem daculturaé vinculada por Nietzsche aos perigos dodesejo humano de fazer sofrer; 3) examinarei, sobretudo a partir de O mal-estar na cultura,a concepção freudiana de que o “mal-estar”(Unbehagen)na cultura é fruto da renúncia pulsional, característica da formação e do desenvolvimento psíquico do indivíduo;e,por fim, 4) analisareicomparativamente o pensamento dos dois autores, buscando enfatizar sobretudo em que medida o sofrimento constitui, do ponto de vista teórico, um dos principais conceitos de suas reflexões sobre a origem da cultura.
