Los bosques protectores en la provincia bolívar: Aplicación de metodologías multidisciplinares en el fortalecimiento y caracterización de la figura de protección

    Las áreas protegidas vienen siendo usadas desde finales del siglo XIX, garantizando la conservación de espacios de alto valor ecológico que se encuentran en buen estado de conservación. Históricamente en América Latina se han repetido aquellas figuras de protección exportadas desde Norte América y Europa, con sus diferentes estándares de protección y regulación. Sin embargo, en dicho contexto también han emergido algunas figuras de protección cuya nomenclatura y características responden a las necesidades y valores históricos de determinadas comunidades rurales. Este es el caso en Ecuador de la figura de protección Bosques Protectores, entre cuyas funciones cabe destacar la de conservar los recursos hídricos del perímetro agrícola que, habitualmente, lo rodea. El presente estudio se centra en el fortalecimiento y caracterización de la figura del Bosque Protector, a través de diferentes metodologías de enfoque multidisciplinar: caracterización de especies paraguas y bandera a través del foto-trampeo, determinación de la anatomía de la madera de las especies de árboles más característicos y batería de propuestas de Planes de Manejo de los RRNN, en el marco de los lineamientos constitucionales. Al concluir el proyecto se espera obtener una batería de Planes de Manejo de los RRNN y generar una serie de materiales divulgativos -sitio web y publicaciones internacionales- y campañas de concienciación. De este modo, se espera conducir al fortalecimiento de la figura de protección a través de la regulación, así como mejorando la percepción de las comunidades aledañas sobre sus bosques nativos.

      Protected areas have been used since the end of the 19th century, guaranteeing the conservation of spaces of high ecological value that are in a good state of conservation. Historically in Latin America, protection figures exported from North America and Europe have been repeated, with their different standards of protection and regulation. However, in this context have also emerged some protection figures whose nomenclature and characteristics respond to the needs and historical values ​​of certain rural communities. This is the case in Ecuador of the Protective Forests protection figure, whose functions include the conservation of the water resources of the agricultural perimeter, which usually surrounds it. The present study focuses on the strengthening and characterization of the figure of the Protective Forest, through different methodologies of multidisciplinary approach: characterization of umbrella and flag species through photo-trapping, determination of the anatomy of the wood of the species of more characteristic trees and battery of proposals of Management Plans of the RRNN, within the framework of the constitutional guidelines. At the end of the project, it is expected to obtain a battery of Management Plans for the NRNR and generate a series of informative materials -web site and international publications- and awareness campaigns. In this way, it is expected to lead to the strengthening of the figure of protection through regulation, as well as improving the perception of neighboring communities about their native forests.
