Fortalecimiento de aptitudes idomáticas en estudiantes universitarios

    Introducción: el dominio del idioma inglés en países de habla hispana ha pasado de ser considerado como un lujo en el siglo pasado a una necesidad actual para el crecimiento profesional. Objetivo: Consolidar las habilidades en el dominio del idioma inglés de estudiantes universitarios. Métodos: se desarrolló un programa emergente en 143 estudiantes universitarios de primer a quinto semestre de las carreras de ingeniería forestal y agronomía de la facultad de Recursos Naturales de la Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo. La intervención consistió en identificar inicialmente las habilidades en el dominio del idioma inglés de los estudiantes y a partir de los resultados obtenidos se aplicó un programa emergente para elevar el dominio del idioma inglés. Se utilizó la prueba no paramétrica de McNemar para identificar cambios en las habilidades del manejo del idioma inglés. Resultados: promedio de edad de 22,62 años con predominio de estudiantes entre 18 y 21 años (71,33%), del sexo masculino (51,75%), procedencia urbana (60,14%) y sin estudios previos de inglés (69,23%). Al inicio de la investigación predominaron los niveles bajos de habilidades, los que aumentaron a nivel medio posterior a la aplicación del programa emergente. La escritura y el habla fueron las habilidades que mayor avance mostraron, mientras que la interpretación resulto ser la habilidad con resultados más discretos. Conclusiones: la aplicación del programa emergente elevó el nivel de habilidades de los estudiantes de las carreras de ingeniería forestal y agronomía de la facultad de Ciencias Naturales, relacionados con el manejo del idioma inglés.

    Introduction: english language proficiency in Spanish-speaking countries has gone from being considered a luxury in the last century to a current need for professional growth. Objective: To consolidate the skills in the English language proficiency of university students. Methods: an emerging program was developed in 143 university students in the first to fifth semesters of the forest engineering and agronomy courses of the Faculty of Natural Resources of the Polytechnic School of Chimborazo. The intervention consisted of initially identifying the students' English language proficiency skills and, based on the results obtained, an emerging program was applied to increase English language proficiency. The McNemar non-parametric test was used to identify changes in English language management skills. Results: average age of 22.62 years with a predominance of students between 18 and 21 years (71.33%), male (51.75%), urban origin (60.14%) and without previous studies of English (69.23%). At the beginning of the investigation, low skill levels predominated, which increased mid-level after the application of the emerging program. Writing and speaking were the skills that showed the most progress, while interpretation proved to be the ability with the most discrete results. Conclusions: the application of the emerging program raised the level of skills of the students of the forest engineering and agronomy careers of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, related to the management of the English language
