    El Reino de España se fundamenta en la existencia de un pacto constitucional que tiene una primera derivada en la estructura territorial de la nación: el Estado autonómico. Analizamoscómo y por qué surgió en 1979 yexplicamosa qué debe su configuraciónactual. El Estado autonómico inicia su recorrido antes de la propia Constitución, conlosecos de la organización territorial de la Segunda República y va evolucionando de forma no programada hasta que se generalizanlas Comunidades Autónomas. Hoy muestra una estructura homogénea más parecida a una federación que a un Estado simplemente descentralizado. Reflexionamos brevemente sobrela importancia de la Alta Inspección de Educación como mecanismo constitucional de cohesión del Estado. Concluimos el análisis señalando la necesidad de que el Estado se articulee integre por el bien de los ciudadanos y advertimos sobre el renacer de conceptos superados por la historia como son los de nación y nacionalismo.

    The Kingdom of Spain is based on the existence of a constitutional pact that has a first derivativein the territorial structure of the nation: the autonomous State. We analyze how and why it emerged in 1979 and explain what it owes its current configuration to. The Autonomous State begins its journey before the Constitution itself, with the echoes of the territorial organization ofthe Second Republic and evolves in an unscheduled way until the Autonomous Communities are generalized. Today it shows a homogeneous structure more similar to a federation than to a simply decentralized State. We brieflyreflect on the importance of High Education Inspection as constitutional mechanism of State cohesion. We conclude the analysis pointing out the need for the State to be articulated and integrated for the good of the citizens and we warn about the rebirth of concepts surpassed by history such as those of nation and nationalism.
