    Desde hace años y cada vez con mayor intensidad se viene produciendo un doble fenómeno. Por un lado, un galopante e irreversible envejecimiento de la población mundial, y, por otro lado, de manera paralela al mismo, un asentamiento cada vez más acusado de dicho colectivo poblacional en el ámbito urbano. La convergencia de tales circunstancias exige que las ciudades no pueden permanecer impasibles y deban adaptar sus infraestructuras, dotaciones, equipamientos y espacios, al igual que sus servicios públicos, a las cada vez más numerosas personas mayores que residen en ellas. En dicho empeño resulta prioritario que las mismas terminen convirtiéndose en ciudades amigables para las personas mayores y del mismo modo, implementen, cada vez en mayor medida, edificios saludables.

    For years and with increasing intensity, a double phenomenon has been taking place. On the one hand, a galloping and irreversible aging of the world population, and, on the other hand, parallel to it, an increasingly pronounced settlement of said population group in the urban area. The convergence of such circumstances requires that cities cannot remain impassive and must adapt their infrastructures, endowments, equipment and spaces, as well as their public services, to the increasing number of older people who reside in them. In this effort, it is a priority that they end up becoming friendly cities for the elderly and, in the same way, implement, increasingly, healthy buildings.
