    El siguiente artículo se propone analizar el accionar militar del obispo Ulrico de Augsburgo (923-972) en la batalla de Lechfeld (955), así como su representación en fuentes contemporáneas y posteriores del ámbito alemán y húngaro. La batalla, en la cual un ejército germano –al mando de Otón I– derrotó a una fuerza invasora húngara, fue un episodio trascendente para la historia de Europa central y europea en general. El rol del obispo en la misma difiere tanto en las fuentes contemporáneas como en su representación ulterior, en especial considerando su canonización en el año 993. A través de una metodología de análisis de “pieza de batalla”, este artículo plantea un recorrido sobre el complejo ejercicio de la autoridad militar episcopal y su representación en Europa Central.

    This article examines the role of Bishop Ulrich of Augsburg (923-972) in the Battle of Lechfeld (955), as well as the representation of his actions in both contemporary and late sources coming from Germany and Hungary. The battle, where an army under King Otto I’s command defeated a Hungarian expeditionary force, was an episode of significance not only for the history of Central Europe but for Europe in general too. The role of the bishop in the battle is difficult to analyse, for its description differs both in contemporary and later sources, especially considering his canonization in 993. By choosing a methodology based on the analysis of “battle-piece”, this article digs into the complex topic of episcopal military power, its exercise, and representations, in Central Europe.
