    Introdução: Adolescente é palavra derivada do latim adolescentia, que significa crescer ou crescer para a maturidade. É uma fase de transição do indivíduo marcada por transformações que vão além de biológicas, psíquicas e sociais, permeando o desenvolvimento sexual do sujeito. Objetivo: Com o intuito de se aproximar dos desafios trazidos pela maternidade na faixa etária de 10 a 14 anos, este estudo objetivou compreender qual o significado de ser mãe para essas adolescentes. Métodos: Dez participantes contaram suas recentes experiências maternas e falaram das dificuldades e dos amparos vividos nesse momento. Usou-se a entrevista individual com roteiro semiestruturado e as falas foram gravadas, transcritas e analisadas através da técnica de análise de conteúdo, com enfoque na análise temática. Resultados: Os resultados evidenciaram quatro eixos centrais: o sentimento de ser mãe, a marcante mudança em suas vidas, o apoio recebido e o arrependimento por ter engravidado tão jovem. Conclusão: O estudo concluiu que é preciso compreender se, de fato, existe algum problema em ser mãe adolescente e, caso necessário, seguir com propostas indicadas para cada realidade social vivenciada por essas jovens.

    Introduction: Teenager: word derived from Latin ‘adolescentia’, which means to grow or grow to maturity. It is a transition phase marked by individual transformations that go beyond biological, psychological and social changes linked to the subject’s sexual development. Objective: The aim of the present study is to understand the challenges of motherhood in the age group 10 - 14 years and the meaning of being a mother based on these girls’ perspective. Methods: Ten participants shared their experiences and spoke about the recent maternal difficulties and wards lived by them in a daily basis. Semi-structured Individual interviews were used in the experiment. Discussions were tape recorded, transcribed and analyzed based on content analysis technique focused on thematic analysis. Results: Results have shown four main axes: the feeling of being a mother, the remarkable change in their lives, the received support and regrets for getting pregnant so young. Conclusion: Based on the results, it is necessary to understand whether there is any problem with being a teenager and to follow up proposals highlighting each social reality experienced by these young women.
