    Se estudian los criterios estéticos e historiográficos de Antonio Alcalá Galiano exhibidos en las conferencias que en 1845 pronunció en el Ateneo de Madrid sobre las literaturas inglesa e italiana del siglo XVIII. Se ponen en evidencia su novedosa metodología historiográfica, inspirada en la de Abel-FrançoisVillemain, heredero del foyer de Mme de Staël, y, a través de sus juicios críticos, una estética y una poética adscribibles al romanticismo clásico cultivado en varios países europeos a inicios del siglo XIX.

    This essay examines the historiographic and aesthetic principles Antonio Alcalá Galiano put forth in his lectures on eighteenth-century British and Italian literatures at the Madrid Athenaeum in 1845. The discussion highlights Antonio Alcalá Galiano’s innovative historiographic methodology, inspired by Abel-François Villemain, heir to Mme de Staël’s foyer, and, through Alcalá Galiano’s critical thinking, an aesthetics and a poetics that can be ascribed to the classical romanticism cultivated in several European countries in the early nineteenth century.
