Largely focused on Orpheus, much research has already been carried out on so called infernal representations in Apulian ceramics. In order to refine our knowledge of the structuring of the afterlife in Southern Italy as well as the specificities of Italian eschatology and iconography, we propose in this study to extend the corpus to all representations of the Underworlds in Magna Grecia and to question it through new approach: the role and status of female figures, whether mortals, “infernal auxiliaries” or the queen of Hades, Persephone.
