    El presente trabajo tiene dos partes claramente diferenciadas. En la primera de ellas se hace un estudio que pretende validar la hipótesis de que la casa torre que hoy conocemos como Torrelanda fue la casa fuerte de Orozko y, por tanto, la misma que daría nombre al valle. Se documenta por vez primera en 1332 y fue propiedad de importantes linajes asentados en la zona, especialmente los Ayala, quienes la utilizaron como centro administrativo desde donde ejercer su poder jurisdiccional y de control sobre un amplio territorio.

    La segunda parte del trabajo se centra en la relación que pudo haber existido entre la citada torre y el castillo roquero de Untzueta, ubicado sobre la cima de dicho monte, en tiempos del rey Pedro I. Ambas fortalezas fueron tema de conflicto entre Abendaños y Ayalas, entre reyes y señores, de cuyos asedios hablan las crónicas escritas y las evidencias materiales halladas por la arqueología. Pedro I recelaba incluso de los más allegados, y sabedor de la importancia de Bizkaia, quiso situar al frente del Señorío a hombres de su confianza. Por ello, el castillo de Untzueta y Torrelanda jugaron un papel decisivo en esta lucha de poderes por valer más en la alta política del Señorío.

    The present work has two clearly differentiated parts. In the first one, a study is carried out that aims to validate the hypothesis that the tower house that we know today as Torrelanda was the strong house of Orozko and, therefore, the same one that would give the valley its name.

    It was documented for the first time in 1332 and was owned by important lineages settled in the area, especially the Ayala, who used it as an administrative centre from which they exercised their jurisdictional power and control over a wide territory.

    The second part of the paper focuses on the relationship that could exist between the aforementioned tower and the rock castle of Untzueta, located on the top of such mountain, in the time of King Pedro I. Both fortresses were the subject of conflict between the Abendaño and the Ayala, between kings and lords, of whose sieges the written chronicles and the material evidence found by archaeology speak. Pedro I was suspicious even of those closest to him, and knowing the importance of Bizkaia, he wanted to place men of his trust in front of the Lordship.

    For this reason, the castle of Untzueta and Torrelanda played a decisive role in this power struggle in order to be more worthy in the high politics of the Lordship.
