Resumen de L’egemonia globale del monoteismo: comprendere le Indie Occidentali attraverso l’Oriente

L’obiettivo di questo lavoro è di attirare l’attenzione su alcuni testi della tradizione missionaria iberica in cui le Indie orientali e quelle occidentali sono messe in relazione e rese partecipi di un’unica grande storia dell’umanità. Lo stretto legame tra le due Indie, nella loro simbolica posizione a destra e a sinistra dell’Europa, è finalizzato certamente alla risoluzione degli enigmi relativi all’origine degli “indiani”, ma ha anche lo scopo di elaborare una teoria sulla diffusione del cristianesimo nel mondo. L’universalità della diffusione del messaggio evangelico sin dalle sue origini era provata attraverso le somiglianze e conformità che si riscontravano tra le Indie orientali e quelle occidentali. Esse facevano supporre migrazioni e contatti e suggerivano gradi di civiltà che appartenevano a fasi diverse di una medesima storia che i missionari erano chiamati a proseguire.

The aim of this work is to draw attention to some texts of the Iberian missionary tradition in which the East and West Indies are related and made part of one great history of humankind. The close link between the two Indies, in their symbolic position to the right and left of Europe, is certainly aimed at solving the riddles related to the origin of the Indians, but it also has the purpose of elaborating a theory on the diffusion of Christianity in the world. The universality of the spread of the Gospel message from its origins was proven through the similarities and conformities found between the East Indies and the West Indies. They suggested migrations and contacts and assumed degrees of civilization that belonged to different phases of the same history that the missionaries were called to continue.
