Defensa y conservación del patrimonio cultural en la ciudad de Cholula, México: el caso de pro Cholula a.c.

    La Ciudad de San Pedro Cholula, en el estado mexicano de Puebla, es considerada la cuidad viva más antigua de América; cuenta con un importante patrimonio cultural prehispánico, colonial y moderno. El interés por atraer la inversión empresarial y convertir el patrimonio cultural en mercancía para atraer el turismo, afecta directamente al patrimonio y a la población. Por tal motivo, una serie de debates y discursos se han venido enfrentando. El objetivo de esta investigación fue analizar tres nociones sobre el patrimonio cultural presentes en la ciudad de San Pedro Cholula: la del Estado, la de la comunidad, y la de los grupos activistas. Para cumplir con el objetivo se analizó el caso de ProCholula A.C., una asociación civil que se considera “defensora del patrimonio cultural”. Se concluye que los intereses económicos y el valor de uso que se da al espacio determinan la utilización que el Estado da al patrimonio, con las consecuentes afectaciones a los habitantes.

    The city of San Pedro Cholula, in the Mexican state of Puebla, is considered the most ancient city in the Americas still living; it has an important Pre-Hispanic, Colonial and Modern cultural heritage. Interest over attracting entrepreneurial investment and converting cultural heritage into merchandise to attract tourism directly affects the heritage and the population. Therefore, a series of debates and discourses have increasingly come face to face. The objective of this study was to analyze three notions about cultural heritage present in the city of San Pedro Cholula: that of the State, that of the community and that of activist groups. In order to do this, the case of ProCholula A.C. was analyzed, a civil association that considers itself “defender of cultural heritage”. We conclude that economic interests and the value of use that the space is given determine the utilization the State gives to heritage, with the consequent impacts on inhabitants.
