    El estudio de toda región lleva inmersa la necesidadde investigar sus antecedentes históricos.El Norte de México y el Sur de EE.UU. son elespacio que Tomás Martínez Saldaña y colaboradoresse han dado a la tarea de describir, analizar e investigar,para mostrar en qué forma los hechos históricoshan transformado la región, desde la conquista hastahoy. En un viaje por ciudades y pueblos cuyo origense remonta a la época virreinal, en el territorio enque hoy se encuentran los estados de México, Querétaro,Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Jalisco, San LuisPotosí, Zacatecas, Durango, Chihuahua, y en el territorioEstadounidense de Santa Fe en Nuevo México;el Camino Real de Tierra Adentro se convierte enpartícipe activo y relevante de la construcción delMéxico moderno. Fue una ruta comercial que unió ala ciudad de México con Santa Fe; de tal forma quesu extensión corresponde con el final de Mesoaméricay el territorio que fue habitado por las culturas áridoamericanas a lo largo de unos dos mil quinientoskilómetros de longitud entre los años de 1590 a 1850.

    The study of any region is imbued with the needto investigate its historical background. Thenorth of México and the south of the UnitedStates make up the area that Tomás Martínez Saldañaand collaborators have set out to describe, analyzeand research, to show how historical events havetransformed the region since the Conquest and untiltoday. In a journey through cities and towns whoseorigin date from the Colonial period, in the territorieswhere the current states of México, Querétaro,Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Jalisco San Luis Potosí,Zacatecas, Durango, Chihuahua, and the US territoryof Santa Fe in New Mexico, are found, the CaminoReal de Tierra Adentro becomes an active participantand important in the construction of modern México.It was a commercial route that united Mexico Citywith Santa Fe, so that its extension corresponds to thelimit of Mesoamerica; the territory that was occupiedby arid American cultures along some two thousandfive hundred kilometers, between the years of 1590and 1850.
