Resumen de Esculturas públicas en el Paseo Marítimo de Arrecife (Lanzarote)

  Aunque hoy día es difícil recorrer la isla canaria de Lanzarote sin encontrarse con esculturas públicas en cualquier calle, paseo o rotonda, el marco fijado para este artículo se limita a aquellas que en distintos momentos se han ido instalando en el paseo marítimo de la capital de la isla: Arrecife. El afán municipal para estos proyectos es el embellecimiento del entorno mediante la ocupación del espacio urbano como museo al aire libre. Asimismo, un eficaz uso pedagógico que impulse al conocimiento y, consecuentemente, a una valoración por parte del ciudadano de su patrimonio artístico, cultural y medioambiental; todo ello ligado a un objetivo fundamental: la regeneración urbana. En la órbita de otros proyectos similares de actuaciones urbanas, la ruta de las esculturas de Arrecife sigue el paseo peatonal, el carril bici y zonas ajardinadas existentes en buena parte de los trayectos. Asimismo, permaneciendo muy presente la huella de César Manrique, se pretende con cada pieza expuesta marcar un diálogo con su entorno costero. Y así también se busca conjugar las señas de identidad isleña con las formas plásticas del arte europeo.

  It is difficult to travel to the Canary Island of Lanzarote without finding public sculptures in streets, promenades, or roundabouts. However, the framework of this article is limited to those sculptures that have been displayed along the promenade of the capital of the island: Arrecife. The municipal objective of these projects is to embellish the location by transforming the urban seaside walking path into an open‐air museum. These projects have also an educational use that increases the public knowledge, boosting the valorization of the artistic, cultural, and environmental heritage from the citizenship. All this is linked to a fundamental objective: urban regeneration. Following other similar urban projects, the Arrecife sculpture route continues along the pedestrian promenade, the bike path and existing garden areas. By maintaining the César Manrique’s footprint, the aim of these art works is to open a dialogue with their maritime surroundings, as well as combining the signs of the island identity with the plastic forms of the European art.
