    El paisaje urbano de Hanói se caracteriza por la profusión de arquitecturas informales. Nuevos tipos como las ‘casas-tubo’ o las ‘jaulas del tigre’ han dado lugar a un continuo espacial y social en el que nuevas edificaciones se confunden con el patrimonio histórico. Aparte de ser un problema urbanístico, esta amalgama de estructuras informales revela modos específicos de entender la vida urbana, y del diálogo entre lo público y lo privado, o lo personal y lo colectivo, surgidos a partir de las reformas económicas y sociales de la era Đổi Mới (‘Renacimiento’) iniciada en 1989. Para entender esta relación en el contexto del Vietnam moderno, se analiza una serie de artistas contemporáneos cuya obra se ha centrado en la la cuestión urbana en Hanói. Se apreciará cómo la creación contemporánea ha influido en la apreciación de este paisaje urbano que ha pasado de ser considerado un fallo del planeamiento a una parte integral de la identidad colectiva de la capital de Vietnam.

    The urban scenery of Hanoi is characterized by the profusion of informal architectures. New types such as the ‘tube-houses’ and the ‘tiger jails’ have given place to a social and spatial continuum where new buildings merge indistinctly with the old ones. Apart from constituting a planning challenge, this amalgamation of informal structures is revealing of specific ways of understanding urban life, public-private dialogues and tensions between individuality and community. Such issues derived from the social and economic reforms of the Đổi Mới era (‘Renaissance’) started in 1989. In order to understand these tensions within the context of modern Vietnam, several contemporary artists, whose work focuses on the urban question of Hanoi, has been studied and analysed. It is presented how contemporary creation has influenced the appreciation of Hanoi streetscapes, which have evolved from being considered a failure of planning policies to an integral constituent of the shared identity of the capital of Vietnam.
