Resumen de McOndo’s anthologized afterlife

Thomas Nulley Valdés

  • However, rather than unwittingly perpetuate McOndo’s canonization through critical inquiry, the object of study here is precisely McOndo’s canonization, considering a particularly understudied factor in this process: the role of anthologies. To be clear, the extent to which these anthologies have had a direct or instrumental role in McOndo’s canonization is entirely up for debate and not the focus of this paper, canonization processes are not as simple as A + B = C. Rather, the focus of this paper is to uncover how McOndo and some of its claims have “reappeared” and been vindicated by other anthologies of this generation of Latin American writers. It is through McOndo’s reappearance, repeated anthological (re) evaluations, and vindication in three major generational anthologies—sometimes overtly and other times implied—that it is worth considering how McOndo’s canonical status has been continually assured and its literary merits have been reassessed.
