A prominent medium for the social integration of Black Africa is the art of the Sub-Saharancultures. These cultures affirm themselves through series of plastic and aesthetic expressionsthat should not be reduced to mere curious and primitive objects. Yet, they are usuallydeprived of museum spaces in the occidental world, and taken into consideration only asinfluences on western artists or as commodities. Westerners assimilate and absorb theseobjects, transforming them on our own terms, dismissing in this way the majority of theiroriginal value and meaning. The complexity of Black African Art demands of deep contextualstudies and concepts specific to this art and that should be addressed by our museuminstitutions.
