    Desde 1923, en que se encomienda la custodia franciscana en la República deGuatemala a la Provincia de Cartagena, la presencia de estos religiosos se ve condicionada pormotivos políticos derivados de constituciones laicas, así como organizativas dentro de la vidaconventual, dificultada por la ampliación de funciones y la dispersión de los lugares a dondehacer llegar su labor evangelizadora. De aquellos misioneros pertenecientes a la Provincia deCartagena, son tres los nacidos en ciudad de Orihuela, y sobre ellos y las dificultades que seencontraron , algunas de ellas derivadas del siglo XIX, así como a la labor que desarrollaronen Guatemala, vamos a referirnos en esta comunicación

    Since 1923, when the Province of Cartagena was made responsible for the wellbeingof the Franciscans in the Republic of Guatemala, their presence was influenced by politicalaffairs derived from both secular constitutions and the administrative demands of conventlife. It was further hindered by the widening of their functions and the dispersion of the placeswhere they had to perform their work of evangelization. Of the missionaries who came fromthe Province of Cartagena, three were born in the city of Orihuela, and this paper will deal withthem and the difficulties they encountered, some of which had their origins in the 19th century,as well as the work they carried out in Guatemala
