    La Virgen de Aguas Santas es una imagen medieval con arraigada devoción enVillaverde del Río (Sevilla), lugar de su legendaria aparición, y en todo el Reino de Sevilla.Allí permaneció en su ermita a cargo de capellanes nombrados por el prior de ermitas delarzobispado hasta que en 1595 se hicieron cargo de ella los franciscanos de la provincia de losÁngeles, que le construyeron un convento inmediato a la capilla. Esta orden, junto con la her-mandad que en Sevilla habían fundado en 1560 plateros, comerciantes y cargadores de Indias,llevó esta advocación y devoción a los océanos y al Nuevo Mundo

    The Virgin of Aguas Santas is a medieval image with deep-rooted devotion in Vil-laverde del Río (Seville), the place of her legendary appearance, and throughout the Kingdomof Seville. There she remained in her shrine under the charge of chaplains appointed by thePrior of Chapels of the archbishopric until in 1595 responsibility for her was assumed bythe Franciscans of the Provincia de los Ángeles, who built for her a convent adjacent to thechapel. This order, together with the brotherhood founded in Seville in 1560 by silversmiths,traders and merchants on the Indies route carried this advocacy and devotion to the oceansand to the New World.
