Resumen de San Francisco en la colección pictórica del Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla

La comunicación trata de algunas de las obras pertenecientes al Museo hispalensede Bellas Artes cuya temática es la figura de san Francisco de Asís. En concreto se tratan loslienzos que bien se exponen en sus salas de forma permanente bien se conservan en sus al-macenes obviando aquellos que se hallan depositados en otras entidades. El marco temporalque abarcan los lienzos estudiados se extiende desde el siglo XVI al siglo XVIII. Aunque laautoría anónima prima en estas obras al igual que la calidad, artistas conocidos son Martín deVos, Valdés Leal, Murillo, Lucas Valdés o Domingo Martínez. Iconográficamente exponen latransformación sufrida por la persona de san Francisco en sus representaciones desde el artemedieval al barroco.

This paper is concerned with some of the works belonging to Seville’s Museum ofFine Arts whose subject matter is the figure of Saint Francis of Assisi. Specifically, it dealswith those canvases which either are on permanent display in its galleries or are being held inits storage rooms, omitting those which have been deposited in other institutions. The time-frame encompassed by the canvases studied runs from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century.Although anonymous authorship is just as much a feature of these works as is their quality,some of the known artists are Martín de Vos, Valdés Leal, Murillo, Lucas Valdés and Domin-go Martínez. Iconographically they represent the transformation undergone by the figure ofSaint Francis in the way in which he is depicted from the art of the Middle Ages to that of theBaroque.
