This article wants to show the different methods of censorship used in libraries by Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany. In Mussolini’s Italy, the censorship was mainly focused between 1938 and 1942, and consisted in drawing up a list of authors and books unwelcome by the regime’s politics. It wasn’t a completely rigorous and severe operation one unlike Germany Third Reich. In this last one, the censorship policy was ruthlessly implemented by Goebbels, Minister for Propaganda, who organized several burnings of the books that weren’t in line with the political religion of the Reich. The nazi book-burning carried within itself a symbolism that would have led beyond the very act of the physical elimination of the book: the elimination of man.
