El reto de educar para la privacidad en un mundo hiperconectado

    En nuestro mundo hiperconectado actual, a diferencia de lo que ocurría en el mundo analógico previo, niños y jóvenes desarrollan su identidad más personal fundamentalmente en el ámbito público y no en el privado. En el ciberespacio es donde suelen desarrollar sus vidas. No obstante, el ciberespacio no es un simple medio, sino que conlleva una serie de fines intrínsecos que es importante conocer y destacar, ya que facilitan la emergencia de comportamientos social y personalmente perjudiciales. Este artículo trata de mostrar que, para poder enfrentar estos comportamientos, es importante recuperar una educación en y para la privacidad. Con esta finalidad, en primer lugar, definimos, por un lado, qué es la privacidad, tal y como ha sido entendida desde los inicios de la Modernidad; y, por otro lado, indicamos por qué su creación y protección fue siempre considerada educativamente importante. En segundo lugar, analizamos hasta qué punto nuestro mundo actual dificulta que el modelo de privacidad previamente descrito se pueda experimentar. En tercer y último lugar, establecemos, como conclusión, la importancia de ayudar a las generaciones actuales de niños y jóvenes a crear, vivir y proteger de un modo distinto su privacidad.

    In our current hyperconnected world, unlike what happened in the previous analog world, children and young people develop their most personal identity, mainly in the public sphere and not in the private one.

    Cyberspace is where they use to live their lives. However, cyberspace is not a simple means, but rather involves a set of intrinsic ends which are important to be known and highlighted, since they facilitate the emergence of socially and personally harmful behaviors. This article tries to show that, in order to confront these behaviors, it is important to recover an education in and for privacy. For that we first define, on the one hand, what privacy is, as it has been understood since the beginning of Modernity; and, on the other hand, we note why its creation and protection was always considered educationally important. Second, we analyze to what extent nowadays our world makes it difficult for the previously described privacy model to be experienced. Third and last, we establish, as a conclusion, the importance of helping current generations of children and young people to create, live and protect their privacy in a different way.
